Why we built connectivity before we built travel

Starting with eSIM looked like a detour. It turned out to be the only way to own the layer that every other travel product quietly rents.

Syla did not start as a travel company. It started as a decentralised eSIM platform integrated directly with global carriers, serving paying customers across 200+ countries before a single flight was ever booked on our stack.

Distribution is a layer, not a feature

Most travel products sit on top of infrastructure they do not control — inventory from an aggregator, identity from a vendor, connectivity from whoever the traveler happened to roam onto. Every one of those is a margin leak and a failure point.

What connectivity unlocks

Because we provision the eSIM, we know the traveler is reachable the moment they land. That is what makes disruption handling real: a delayed flight can trigger a hotel and transfer re-sync that actually arrives, on a data connection we activated at checkout.

Owning the connectivity layer means the trip keeps working when everything else stops.
